The Union County NC Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 3344 Presson Rd Monroe, NC which is operated locally by the Union County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Union County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Monroe Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The jail does not allow money orders, checks, cash, books, explicit photographs or materials, or food items. To contribute to an inmates trust account you can visit the Jail ATM kiosk located at the jail. You can also deposit money online through jailATM.com.

Union County Jail – Visitation
Inmates are allowed up to two-15 minute visits a day, and visitation is limited to Thursday through Sunday, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m., with specific days and times designated by inmates’ last names.
- A-F Thursdays and Saturdays 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
- G-L Thursdays and Saturdays 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
- M-R Fridays and Sundays 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
- S-Z Fridays and Sundays 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Children’s visitation occurs on the first Saturday of every month. Only two children are allowed to visit at a time and will be accompanied by an adult. Children may not be left unattended in the lobby.
Cell phones and purses are not allowed in visitation. Jail staff will not hold any items for visitors. A valid state issued identification or passport must be presented at the time of check-in.
A visitor must also be approved to visit by the inmate they want to visit. Inappropriate dress or behavior by a visitor may result in the loss of visitation privileges.
Deputies and Detention Officers are not allowed to pass personal or phone messages to inmates.
