Polk County FL South Jail basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 863-635-6920
This facility is for adult inmates.
The Polk County FL South Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1103 US Hwy 98 W Frostproof, FL which is operated locally by the Polk County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Polk County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Frostproof Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Inmate Handbook Rules and Regulations contains the rights and responsibilities of a Polk County Jail inmate. It also describes acts prohibited in the detention and types of disciplinary action which may be taken if an inmate commits any of the prohibited acts. If an inmate does not follow these rules, administrative, disciplinary and/or legal action could be taken.
If an inmate cannot read or is blind, the Inmate Handbook Rules and Regulations shall be read to them and verbally explained. Bilingual deputies shall be utilized for this purpose if the inmate does not speak English.
The largest facility in Polk County's detention system, the South County Jail in Frostproof, was completed in late 1999. The facility was designed to house up to 1,008 inmates. In 2010, the South County Jail was expanded to house 1,776 inmates. The expansion also added video visitation capabilities, allowing for more flexible inmate visitation schedules.
Current inmate populations include: adult male general population inmates, adult male Direct Supervision inmates, adult male trusties (inmate workers), and adult male Jail Alternatives to Substance Abuse (JASA) program inmates.
The South County Jail offers various programming to eligible inmates. Additionally, life skills, faith based, and substance abuse programs are also available for inmates to attend.
A courtroom is provided at the South County Jail for First Appearance Hearings. Visitors can watch these proceedings in the lobby of the South County Jail seven days a week.
