This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Davidson CC located at 1400 Thomason St in Maury, NC are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Davidson Correctional Center, near Lexington, is a minimum security prison that houses 258 adult males.

Inmates are housed in one of the four dormitories at this facility. They are provided vocational training in horticulture through the local Davidson Community College. Offenders can work in a variety of jobs from landfill recycling, road cleanup crews, and within the institution performing kitchen and maintenance duties. Additionally, inmates who qualify for work release can get a job in the surrounding community where they work during the day, and return to the correctional facility at the end of their shift.

Davidson Correctional Center offers religious worship services to offenders through the Chaplains office. Additional programs offer inmates alcohol and substance abuse treatment and counseling.

Davidson was one of 51 county prisons for which the state assumed responsibility with the passage of the Conner bill in 1931. It was one of 61 field unit prisons renovated or built during the late 1930s to house inmates who worked building roads.

In June 1964, Davidson changed from a minimum security honor grade facility to a work release unit.

In the original prison, inmates were housed in a building that had two dormitories. Two modular dormitories were added in October 1977. These housing units are still in use today.

Lawmakers provided two 50-bed dormitories for Davidson as part of the $28.5 million Emergency Prison Facilities Development program authorized in 1987. The two 50-bed dormitories, as well as a multi-purpose building, opened in June 1988. Another 50-bed dormitory was added as part of the $87.5 million prison construction program authorized in 1993.

Inmates work in a number of jobs. They may be assigned to community work squads, Department of Transportation road crews, the Davie County landfill recycling project or labor contracts with Mocksville or Davie County. Other inmates may work at the prison in maintenance or kitchen duties. Inmates nearing parole may participate in work release, leaving the prison for part of the day to work for a business in the community.

Inmates may take part in Alcoholics Anonymous, Yokefellows, Prison Ministries or Sunday religious services. Inmates may take part in the department's Drug Alcohol Recovery Treatment aftercare program and substance abuse programs.

The visitation schedule at Davidson Correctional Center is based on the first letter of the inmate’s last name. Visitation for each group will rotate every three (3) months. It is the responsibility of the visitor to ensure they are present at the correct time and date. The visitor must be on the inmate’s approved visitor’s list. Special visits approved by Superintendent.

Groups, times and months are as follows:

January through March:

• Saturday, 9:00am to 11:00am – A through D
• Saturday, 1:30pm to 3:30pm – R through Z
• Sunday, 9:00am to 11:00am – M through Q
• Sunday, 1:30pm to 3:30pm – A through  D

April through June:

• Saturday, 9:00am to 11:00am – E through L
• Saturday, 1:30pm to 3:30pm – M through Q
• Sunday, 9:00am to 11:00am – R through Z
• Sunday, 1:30pm to 3:30pm – A through D

July through September:

• Saturday, 9:00am to 11:00am – R through Z

DRESS CODE & VISITATION GUIDELINES

All visitors will be properly dressed. Any apparel of a revealing nature or that could be expected to be offensive to others will be cause to deny entrance. All visitors are expected to adhere to the following:

• No tank tops, undershirts, or halter tops as outer garments
• No bare feet.
• No see-through shirts without an undershirt
• No shorts more than four (4) inches above the knee
• No garments displaying the mid-rib and stomach.
• No dresses or blouses that expose cleavage.
• No dresses or skirts more than four (4) inches above the knees.
• No bathing suit tops unless covered with a blouse
• Other apparel judged by the Officer-in-Charge to be detrimental to the order and security of the facility.
• Any items of clothing displaying any insignia or remarks that would be considered offensive to any race, religion, or ethnic group, etc.
• No handbags or diaper bags.
• Baby items will be limited to 1 diaper, 4 wipes, 1 cloth, and 1 bottle.
• Proper identification is required to enter the visiting area. Visitors under the age of eighteen (18) will be permitted to visit with a supervising adult only.
• All visitors must be on the approved visitation list.
• Only three adult visitors are allowed to visit any inmate on any visiting day. Any inmate may utilize a maximum of one table and four chairs.
• Visitors may not exchange or give items to inmates. Violation will be cause for suspension of visitation privileges.
• When visitation is outside, visitors may bring prepared food for the inmate they are visiting. No beverages, glass, or metal plates or utensils will be permitted. Normally, visitation will be outside when the temperature is 50 degrees or above and there is no precipitation.
• All visits must be conducted in a quiet and orderly manner.
• Prolonged kissing, inappropriate touching, petting and/or sex acts are strictly prohibited.
• Visitors will not be allowed to re-enter the facility once they leave the visiting area for any reason. No Exceptions.
• Absolutely no cell phones, pepper spray, cameras, or recording devices will be allowed to enter the visiting area or facility. Violation will result in immediate termination of visitation.

These guidelines are not intended to be an all-inclusive list of rules and guidelines. All other laws and regulations apply to all inmates and visitors.

Denial of Visitation

1. Visitor fails to comply with facility rules.
2. The visitor has been disruptive during previous visits.
3. The visitor attempts to bring alcohol, drugs or other contraband into the facility or attempts to visit while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
4. The visitor refuses to show proper identification or submit to a routine search.
5. The visitor was a participant in the criminal activity the inmate is incarcerated for.
6. The visitor’s presence in the facility would undermine security consideration or corrective treatment.
7. The visitor’s visitation privileges have been revoked without reinstatement by the Director of Prisons.
8. Visitor’s whose visitation privileges have been revoked will be notified in writing.
