Clinton County MI Jail basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 866-932-6506
This facility is for adult inmates.
The Clinton County MI Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1347 E Townsend Rd St. Johns, MI which is operated locally by the Clinton County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Clinton County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the St. Johns Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Many inmates are County residents, yet a number of the inmates are boarders which are received from the federal, state, and other county governments, which offsets Clinton County's debt and operating cost of the jail. Since the County was paying other counties to board prisoners and was continually overcrowded, the County Commission in 1990 decided to build a jail which would house additional Clinton County prisoners and allow for growth. The jail, which was built in 1991, had a design rated capacity of 186 inmates, while the old jail held only 42 prisoners. A renovation and addition took place in 2004, which created a bigger kitchen area and added 30 beds, bringing the jail capacity to 216. In 2012, 20 more beds were added allowing for the housing of up to 236 individuals.
