The Branch County MI Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 580 Marshall Rd Coldwater, MI which is operated locally by the Branch County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Branch County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Coldwater Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The elected Sheriff is directly responsible to the citizens of Branch County for the provision of effective and acceptable law enforcement services as well as the safe and effective operation of the jail.

Inmate Mail
Incoming and outgoing inmate mail is subject to inspection for the presence of contraband that might threaten the safety, security or well-being of the jail/facility, its staff, and residents. Inmates may receive only metered, unstamped, plain white postcards no larger than 6" x 8" as mail. Writing must be in pencil or blue or black ink. Any other mail will be returned to the sender. If no return address is available, unauthorized mail will be stored in the inmate's locker until the inmate's release. No photos allowed.
Inmate mail cannot contain any of the following: Create an immediate threat to jail order by describing the manufacture of weapons, bombs, incendiary devices, or tools for escape that realistically are a danger to jail security; Advocate violence or insurrection; Promote or espouse racial supremacy or ethnic purity; provide detailed instruction in any fighting arts. No current inmate-to-inmate mail will be allowed and will be destroyed. Stamps, writing instruments, paper, etc. for inmates must be purchased through the jail commissary. No property of any kind can be mailed to or dropped off for inmates. Inappropriate or unacceptable mail will be returned to the sender and not placed in the inmate's locker. Those persons attempting to send contraband will be prosecuted.

Inmate Visitation
Visitation is provided by Securus video visitation. Visits must be scheduled by a non-inmate. Inmates cannot schedule their own visits. Visitors can schedule Home Visits from any computer at www.securustech.net. Visitors can schedule an On-Site visit from home at the same website or in the booking and bonding lobby.
The Home Visit requires payment to Securus. On-site visits are free, one per week. For these purposes, the week begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Visits are available Tuesday through Sunday (no Mondays) from 8 AM to 11 PM. Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Anyone can visit an inmate, the inmates do not have a "visitor list" of allowed visitors.
On-site visitors are required to fill out a visitation form and provide a valid photo ID. A visitor who has been incarcerated in this Jail for over 24 hours during the last thirty days will not be allowed to visit. Neither the inmate nor the visitor shall verbally abuse each other or anyone else during the visit or the visit will be terminated.
Inappropriate behavior or attire will also result in refusal or termination of a visit. If a corrections officer has cause to believe a visitor is intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, that visitor will be refused.
