The inmates housed at SCI Muncy located at 6454 PA-405 in Muncy, PA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
SCI Muncy, formerly known as the Industrial School for Women serves as the diagnostic and classification center for all women entering the state prison system and is a medium/maximum security facility for an adult female inmates. It is located in the borough of Muncy, Lycoming County, approximately 18 miles east of Williamsport. Originally established in 1913 as an Industrial Home for Women administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, it was incorporated into the Bureau of Corrections as the State Institution at Muncy in 1953. Muncy encompasses 793 acres of land. Approximately 30 acres are inside the institution’s perimeter security fence, which encloses 15 permanent and two modular inmate housing units.

Correctional Industries: Two staff members oversee the Correctional Industries garment factory that employ 47 inmates. Products produced at SCI Muncy include female inmate uniforms, kitchen whites, commissioned officer trousers, Central Kitchen staff trousers, staff khaki BDUs.

Project IMPACT hours vary throughout the year. Visitors should check with the inmates who are informed of the schedule.
Maximum Number of Visitors Per Inmate
- 8 (including children) on Mon., Tues., and Friday.
- Weekend visits are limited to six people per visit only.
Virtual visitation: Virtual visitation is available at SCI Muncy and is limited to persons living in the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie areas. The program uses video conferencing technology to enhance parenting skills; allows an inmate to visit with immediate family members, caregivers of the inmate’s children, and other individuals on the inmate’s approved visiting list; increases the frequency of visits for an inmate; and permits the scheduling of visits at times that are best for the visitors. Every inmate in general population status, regardless of his custody level, is eligible. Inmates housed in administrative and disciplinary custody are not permitted to participate in the Virtual Visitation Program.
